FAQ
What is a weighted blanket?
Weighted blanket is a blanket that consists of many rectangular "pockets", each of which contains a filler made of glass beads. The blanket weighs 7 kilograms, so it is called a weighted or sensory blanket. The weight of the blanket exerts a gentle pressure on the human body. This creates a hug effect, which relaxes the muscles, and releases dopamine and serotonin. As a result, a weighted blanket promotes deeper sleep or helps people with sleep issues fall asleep.
Who needs a weighted blanket?
A weighted blanket will suit you in the following situations:
- if you don't like light blankets;
- if you experience a stressful situation for a long time;
- if you experience anxiety;
- if you have trouble falling asleep or have occasional insomnia;
- if you or your child has an autism spectrum disorder;
- if you or your child has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
How to use a weighted blanket?
A weighted blanket can be used in the same way as a regular blanket during sleep. Thanks to the gentle pressure, the blanket creates the effect of a hug – it helps to relax and fall asleep faster.
In addition, a weighted blanket can be used during the day, if you feel strong stress, an anxiety attack, or an impending panic attack. The blanket will create a sense of security and comfort.
You can use a weighted blanket not only for yourself but also for your child. It is often used in the therapy of children with autism spectrum disorders: strong hugs or weighted blankets help to calm down when they feel anxious.
Depending on your individual preferences, you can use a weighted blanket in combination with a bedspread or plaid. Some of our clients say that in winter, they prefer warmness, so a weighted blanket solely is not enough for a comfortable sleep.
If you usually do not freeze, then you will be comfortable under a weighted blanket, regardless of the time of year.
What time of year is a weighted blanket suitable for?
It all depends on how you like to sleep – warm or cool.
The most important thing in this matter is that a weighted blanket does not warm, like, for example, a duvet. Therefore, if you are usually cold, then in winter, in addition to a weighted blanket, you will need an additional blanket or bedspread.
If in the summer heat you are used to sleeping under a light blanket or even under a sheet, then perhaps you will be a little hot under a weighted blanket.
Can I sleep under a weighted blanket all the time?
The weighted blanket has no restrictions – you can sleep under it for as long as you feel comfortable. Some of our clients switch between regular and weighted blankets, and others sleep under them all the time.
Who better not use a weighted blanket?
A weighted blanket is not recommended if you have:
- chronic heart disease;
- problems with blood circulation;
- respiratory system diseases.
How to care for a weighted blanket?
The weighted blanket is made of a pleasant-to-touch cotton, and hypoallergenic glass granules are used as a filler. In order to keep the blanket clean for as long as possible, it is recommended to use a cover.
The blanket can be hand-washed. Machine or dry cleaning is not recommended.
